After several months of planning, training and several activities, our efforts culminated in the official opening of  the Pick-It sorting center in Tema NewTown  on the 25th of  July,2018. In attendance for the official opening were several dignitaries both local and international. We were glad to be joined by representatives of the Environmental Ministry of Cote D'Ivoire and the Fan Milk, Cote D'Ivoire. ]

It was an exciting day for all project partners, government, donors, members of the communities involved and stakeholders in general. The event was crowned with several speeches from representatives from the Tema Traditional Council, The Environment Protection Agency, implementing partner Environment 360. Fan Milk Ltd as well as our most important stakeholder, our waste pickers. Esther Nyarko, speaking on behalf of the waste pickers, expressed their gratitude to the partners for the opportunity given them to better their lives. They looked forward to applying the skills and lessons from their business coaching sessions.

From the commencement of operation of the sorting centre, the inflow of plastic waste has steadily increased every month. The first 90 days of operation (July to September) recorded 3.3 tons of plastic recyclables being collected. In October the amount increased to 4 tons while November and December recorded a collection of approximately 7 tons of plastic recyclables into the sorting centre.
