My Struggle, Our Voice

Divine Dakonor is my name  and I am 28 years old. I come from Mafi Tsakpo in the Volta region.  .  Its been 2 years since I started picking recyclable materials from the landfill for onward sale to middle- men, usually at a low price. Joining the Pick -it project  has empowered me to see the good in collective bargaining, for which reason i am excited to be a part of this project.

I have a drive for business so I was waiting for other opportunities to do business, since my previous job was fetching something small for  me(SUSU SERVICES). So I heard of what Pick- It was offering the waste pickers in my community and i decided to take up the opportunity.

At  my first CCB training workshop , I was happy when they brought out the tools for us to work. I have not seen many organizations well organized and not selective in any way. Also every individual's ideas in the project was important to them, they did not undermine anyone's idea that they brought on board.

Right now, I feel like I have a better understanding of the recycling business. I am more comfortable interacting with people with different background within the project. I have been exposed to a broad knowledge about  recycling. There has being several awareness created on recycling and it's benefits by the partners of this wonderful initiative. .  All I have to say is that may the Almighty God richly bless the partners, Fan Milk, Environment360, MIT and WIEGO abundantly.  THANK YOU.
