2018 World Environmental Day: Environment 360 sensitizes traders at Madina market

Environment 360 sensitizes traders at Madina market on how to deal with plastic wastes

Environment 360, an Accra based NGO, has sensitized some traders of Madina on the need to reduce plastic wastes in an attempt to tackle the unfortunate sanitation challenges the country is faced with.

The event was organized in commemoration of the World Environment Day which falls on June 5, 2016 in Accra.

The World Environment Day is marked June 5 every year, and is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

According to Mr. Masen Kafui Koranteng, program leader of Environment 360, his outfit has chosen the day to advocate on behalf of proper waste management by reducing plastic pollution.

“We want to use the day to sensitize people at the Madina market on best ways to reduce the quantity of plastic wastes, that they generate on their daily basis, due to their daily activities”.

He urged Ghanaians to make use of re-useable or collection bags like the paper bags, buskers, etc, instead of using plastic bags to produce waste in the environment.

The team visited the market to educate and distribute some event T-shirts among the traders, to carry forward the campaign across the country.

The T-shirts bore inscriptions that prompts people to SAY NO to plastic wastes and embrace proper sanitation at all times.

Environment 360 believes that, if they are able to sensitize the market women by giving them T-shirts, they can carry the message to their customers, by encouraging them when coming to market, they can bring collective or re-useable bags.
